Do I need to carry out a fire safety risk assessment?

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 that came into effect in October 2006 states that you must carry out a fire risk assessment and maintain a fire management plan, if you are any of the following:

• responsible for business premises
• an employer or self-employed with business premises
• responsible for a part of a dwelling where that part is solely used for business purpose
• a charity or voluntary organisation
• a contractor with a degree of control over any premises

You will need to cary out a fire risk assesment and have a fire management plan.

Will I be required to appoint a ‘Responsible Person’ to manage the fire precautions?

The occupants of all premises will be required to appoint a “responsible person” to manage the fire precautions, that named person will be personally responsible for all fire precautions on the premises.

I am responsible for a place of worship, do the regulations apply to me?

In the past, it was considered the places of worship had a level of Crown immunity, this is no longer the case, the regulations do apply. We work closely with many places of worship and understand many of the special challenges that you may face.
