Do I need to carry out a fire safety risk assessment?
The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 that came into effect in October 2006 states that you must carry out a fire risk assessment and maintain a fire management plan, if you are any of the following:
- responsible for business premises
- an employer or self-employed with business premises
- responsible for a part of a dwelling where that part is solely used for business purpose
- a charity or voluntary organisation
- a contractor with a degree of control over any premises
You will need to cary out a fire risk assesment and have a fire management plan.

Will I be required to appoint a ‘Responsible Person’ to manage the fire precautions?
The occupants of all premises will be required to appoint a “responsible person” to manage the fire precautions, that named person will be personally responsible for all fire precautions on the premises.
