Fire safety risk assessment – who is responsible?

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 that came into effect in October 2006 states that you must carry out a fire risk assessment and maintain a fire management plan, if you are any of the following:

  • responsible for business premises
  • an employer or self-employed with business premises
  • responsible for a part of a dwelling where that part is solely used for business purpose
  • a charity or voluntary organisation
  • a contractor with a degree of control over any premises

You will need to carry out a fire safety risk assesment and have a fire management plan.

Assessco can assist you in performing your fire safety risk assessment and recommend any actions necessary to comply with current fire regulations, we do not sell fire equipment so you can rest assured that all of our advice is independent and not sales driven. Our fire safety risk assessments comply strictly to British Standard PAS 79.

Will I be required to appoint a Responsible Person to manage the fire precautions?

The occupants of all premises will be required to appoint a “responsible person” to manage the fire precautions, that named person will be personally responsible for all fire precautions on the premises. We can assist you in understanding and complying with the new regulations.

We have been issued with an improvement notice, what do we do now?

I am responsible for a place of worship, do the regulations apply to me?

In the past, it was considered the places of worship had a level of Crown immunity, this is no longer the case, the regulations do apply. We work closely with many places of worship and understand many of the special challenges that you may face.

The service Assessco has provided has been very professional. We would be happy to recommend them to other organisations for fire risk assessments and fire safety training
